About us

Built by the people who used to ride your ledges.

Stop Skateboarding was founded by former skateboarders - the same people who spent their teenage years hunting every clean edge, rail, and bank in the city. We know exactly why your property is getting sessioned, because we would have sessioned it.

We pioneered the technology because we knew the problem from both sides

Every skateboarder knows the lifecycle of a spot. It gets found, it gets filmed, it gets shared - and within a season the edges are chunked, the wax is baked in, and the property owner is paying for masonry they never budgeted for. Then one day a skater shows up and the spot is dead: little metal brackets on the edge. No sign, no fence, no argument. Just physics.

Those brackets fascinated us. Most of what was being bolted onto buildings was crude - badly spaced, badly finished, an afterthought that punished the architecture as much as the skating. We knew it could be done properly, because we knew precisely what a skater needs to make a trick work: the approach, the speed, the pop, and above all the uninterrupted line. Remove any one of them and the spot dies. Remove the line and it never comes back.

That insight became a company. Stop Skateboarding pioneered engineered skate deterrence as a discipline: spacing set by board geometry, mounting engineered to the substrate, finishes matched to the architecture, and systems designed to deny the trick without injuring the person attempting it. What started with ledge stoppers grew into handrail knobbing, bank and slope systems, site-furniture design, and our ornamental Fallen Leaf Series - deterrence that works as decoration.

We are not anti-skateboarding. We are pro-property. There is a difference, and it shows in everything we build.

The rights of private property, defended without hostility

Property owners have the right to decide what happens on their stone, their steel, and their steps. But most do not want war - they want quiet. Our systems are engineered to end the conflict, not escalate it: non-injurious by design, reversible where the building demands it, and discreet enough that most visitors never notice them at all. The best deterrent is the one nobody talks about.

We design for the whole public, not just the skater. Every product is reviewed against pedestrian safety, accessibility, and drainage. A deterrent that catches a cane, a wheelchair, or a stroller has failed - no matter how many tricks it stops.

Skaters keep skating. Just not here.

We love skateboarding. Some of us still skate, and we donate design time to skatepark projects, because skateboarding belongs in parks built for it - not on a memorial wall, a school stair, or a corporation's granite. Our work is about giving everyone a place: skaters get parks that are worth riding, and property owners get buildings that stay whole.

International by design

Skate spots are global, and so are we. Stop Skateboarding manufactures centrally and installs through a vetted international network of contractors and partners - people we have worked with across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Whether the site is a single residence or a national portfolio of government buildings, the same engineering, the same finishes, and the same standards arrive on site. Distance is a logistics problem, and logistics is our department, not yours.

How we work

  • We read the spot like skaters. Approach, speed, line, landing - the assessment starts with the trick, not the tape measure.
  • We respect the architecture. Mounts engineered to the substrate, finishes matched to the material, nothing drilled that cannot be restored.
  • We never injure. No spikes at ankle height, no sharp edges, no traps. Denial, not harm.
  • We stand behind the install. If a spot reactivates, we come back and re-engineer it.

From a front porch to a federal plaza, the job is the same: your property, your call. We just make the call stick.

Your ledges. Your rails. Your call.

Send us a few photos of the spots getting sessioned. We will come back with a deterrent plan and a price - free, no obligation.
